The award aims to promote and enhance the talents and professional achievements of women in engineering, while also representing a concrete institutional response to Goal 5 of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: “Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.”
The award is open to young women who have earned a degree in engineering or a PhD in an engineering field, with thesis defenses occurring between April 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025.
The theme chosen for this year’s edition is:
“Artificial Intelligence for the New Challenges of 2050.”
In the engineering field, it is particularly relevant to analyze the impact of AI on environmental sustainability, management of production factors, biotechnologies, IT systems, major commodity infrastructure networks, and big data management. In this context, traits often associated with women may play a crucial role in managing the new frontiers of artificial intelligence.
In previous editions, the award received support from over 30 universities, including Sapienza University of Rome, Polytechnic University of Bari, University of Naples Federico II, as well as from numerous major Italian and international companies.
For the 2025 edition, the Ingenio al Femminile Thesis Award confirms the allocation of five prizes worth €1,500 each:
• Best thesis in Civil and Environmental Engineering
• Best thesis in Industrial Engineering
• Best thesis in Information Engineering
• Giulia Cecchettin Memorial Award, for the best thesis in Biomedical Engineering
